Selling a certain number of vehicles is one thing, but keeping them on the road for as long as possible is something else entirely. Believe it or not, this is a statistic that many automakers regularly work to update.
Toyota has built a solid reputation for the reliability of its vehicles. It’s not uncommon to see models from the brand that are 20, 30, or even 40 years old still on the road—something that can’t be said for every manufacturer. So, it\'s fair to assume that the Japanese automaker has a large number of vehicles still in circulation today. Now, how high do you think that number is?
A Shocking Revelation
With sales exceeding 10 million units each year, Toyota is one of the largest automotive groups in the industry. That’s impressive, but we shouldn’t forget that many vehicles are involved in accidents every year, and time inevitably takes its toll on a great number of them. Despite this, according to data from the Japanese manufacturer, more than 150 million Toyota vehicles are still on the road today.
This represents 9.1% of all vehicles currently in circulation worldwide, across all brands. That means just under half of all Toyotas ever sold are still in use—definitely a testament to the brand’s legendary reliability.
Toyota is no stranger to breaking records when it comes to sales figures. For example, the Corolla surpassed 53.39 million units sold as of September 2023, making it, to this day, the best-selling car of all time worldwide. One can only imagine how much that number has grown since then.
A Clear Objective
It’s no coincidence that Toyota chose to reveal the number of its vehicles still on the road today. New cars are becoming increasingly expensive, and the used vehicle market is more popular than ever. The brand therefore aims to offer new services in this industry, particularly in the areas of financing and accessories. Promoting the fact that over 150 million Toyota vehicles are currently on the road across the globe is sure to encourage buyers to choose Toyota over other brands.
